   My Cool Neighbor is a locally owned Heating and Cooling company based in Iola, Kansas. We serve a wide area from Chanute to Garnett and Yates Center to Fort Scott. We were founded in October 2021, by Derrick and Jennifer. Derrick and Jennifer were born in raised in the Kansas City area (Go Chiefs!) where Derrick earned an associates degree in Heating and Cooling and worked in the field for over a decade after schooling. Some family of the Fosters moved to the Iola area from Kansas City in 2021 which led to Derrick and Jennifer visiting the area and feeling right at home. It didn't take long for the Fosters to decide to move out of 'the big city' as well. They moved to Iola and officially "Opened the doors" of the business in May of 2022.

   During our visits with Allen county locals, it became very clear that the area was in need of more home service companies. This presented a promising -but challenging- opportunity to start a company of our own at the same time we moved. Most entrepreneurs ease into their new business; but we jumped in to business in an area where we didn't know anyone! In our short time in the area so far, we've grown a huge, happy network of Neighbors (customers) who are excited to refer My Cool Neighbor to friends and family-we must be doing something (all things) right!

   We often get asked if My Cool Neighbor is a franchise or some big national company, but we're not! It's a common question because of our unique name and professional customer-facing software. We brought the qualities of big city companies to our new small town life with MANY ways to contact us, learn about us, and share with friends. We've noticed we're one of the only home service companies in our area with a full website, easy to use financing options, online contact forms, online scheduling, active social media and google pages, and our professional grade digital estimate/invoicing software. 

   Another very popular question is how we came up with the name My Cool Neighbor. A lot of service companies are named after the original founder. Simply a persons name for a company name. That makes it difficult to remember the company name in a time of need. Just look through your school yearbooks or social media; tons and tons of names, that you probably know, but how many times do you think of someone and say "oh, what was their name?" A business named after the founder will run into the same problems....it's just another person's name to remember. We already knew that we would not name the company after ourselves, but rather try to come up with something that provokes a feeling, is easy to remember, fun to say and can be used for puns in marketing. During their visits to the area, Derrick loved the small-town charm where everyone knows everyone and will give the shirt off their back to help. Derrick wanted to make that Neighborly feeling a focal point of the business, so it became a prominent part of the name. To take it a step further, he wanted to add 'possession' to the name to make if feel even more trusting. This is where the 'My' 'Neighbor' portions originated, but how do we specify that we specialize in heating and cooling? Ideas evolved from my heating and cooling neighbor-too long; to my hvac neighbor-but not everyone knows what hvac means (PS HVAC stands for heating, ventilation and air conditioning). We then had the idea of My Hot Neighbor, but didn't think that would go over too well; though it is a funny story and always gets a laugh. There were many more name ideas that we pondered but after Derrick developed My Cool Neighbor, nothing else just seemed fitting enough. We truly try to make each home visit as comfortable for you as if we really were long-time neighbors.
